About the Project

Project Story

This project is demonstrating fast-charging electric vehicles from a DC microgrid using 72 kW DC solar Photovoltaic (PV). The system is located at 40 Green Street, Mount Kisco, NY, which provides offices for the Mount Kisco Police Department, Justice Court, Mount Kisco Historical Society, and non-profit organization Sustainable Westchester. The system will include solar PV arrays on the roof of the building. Energy from the PVs can be stored into a 180kWh battery energy storage system (BESS), which would subsequently dispense the energy into electric vehicles (EV) when they want to charge. While not charging the BESS, the PV system will inject the excess energy into the grid as community solar and provide savings on the electricity bills of project subscribers. The project is encouraging climate equity by delivering subscription opportunities first to community members that will benefit most. Priority enrollment will go to those living in state-designated disadvantaged community areas or income-eligible residents in Mount Kisco and nearby communities. With no cars charging, the BESS can aid in injecting the stored, renewable, power to the grid as well, for a combined maximum of 90kW AC . Through subscription, families will support locally produced, clean solar energy and be able to save on their electric bills.
